Scope and Content Note
This series consists of volumes documenting three individual contracts for improvement of the Erie and Oswego Canals as provided for by Chapter 147 of the Laws of 1903 and amendatory laws. 1). Contract No. 8-A (Erie Canal Section 2) was awarded to The Foundation Company of New York and involved the construction of Lock No. 8 and the substructure of Dam No. 4 in the Mohawk River at Scotia. Four contract alteration agreements are also included in the volume.
2). Contract No. 206 (Erie Canal Section 9) was granted to Groot Engineering Company, Inc. of Rochester and pertained to the raising of the bridge over Lock No. 33 at Edgewood Avenue in Rochester. 3). Contract No. 10-A (Oswego Canal Section 1) was awarded to the T.A. Gillespie Company of New York and involved completing construction of the canal and raising the upper dam at Fulton. This contract originated from alterations in original Contract No. 10. Three contract alteration agreements are also included in the volume.
