Administrative History
Within the Department of Public Service, the Office of General Counsel performs all legally-related duties and services for the Department and the Public Service Commission. The Office represents the Commission in actions and legal proceedings involving questions of Public Service Law, both in court and before administrative agencies. Unlike many other State agencies which are represented in court actions by the Office of the Attorney General, the Department of Public Service represents itself in legal matters dealing with public utilities. As a result, the Department's General Counsel has carried cases to U.S. Courts of Appeal and, at times, to the U.S. Supreme Court.
