Administrative History
Chapter 147 of the Laws of 1903, informally known as the Barge Canal Law, was an act passed by New York legislature making provision for issuing bonds for the improvement of the Erie, Oswego, and Champlain canals. This act alotted up to one hundred and one million dollars for these improvements.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of a volume of monthly engineering expenditures for the improvement of sections of the Champlain, Erie, and Oswego Canals as directed by Chapter 147, Laws of 1903. Included are tables that show total abstracts of payments by individual offices (head office, division office, residency office); expenditures for field work surveys, water supply, borings, and surroundings; and construction costs for contracts. The total amount spent for the month and a running total of year to date payments is included.
