Scope and Content Note
This series consists of summary service records of members of New York National Guard units. Information typically includes name, date of birth, place of birth, home address, date of enlistment, unit enlisted into, date of separation, how separated (honorable discharge, etc.), and dates of reenlistment. The span dates for earliest enlistments to latest noted discharge is ca. 1917-1954. Many of the images are less than fully legible.
Subseries 1, Service Cards for Members Discharged Prior to the Second World War, 1917-1938: Consists of service cards for members of the National Guard who were separated or discharged from service prior to the Second World War. None of the soldiers in this subseries appear to have been inducted into federal service while they were active members of the New York National Guard.
Subseries 2, Service Cards for Members Serving in Federal Service during the Second World War, 1925-1945: Soldiers documented by this subseries appear to have been inducted into the federal service, Army of the United States (AUS) by the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940. Service cards on microfilm reels 28-33 show fronts and backs of cards; cards on reels 34-40 only show versos of cards if further information is included.
Subseries 3, Service Cards for Members Serving after the Second World War, ca. 1945-1954: Individuals documented by these service cards enlisted after the Second World War. Some may have been inducted into federal service. All were inactive prior to 1955.

Custodial History
This microfilm was transferred to the New York State Archives at an unknown date. The original copies were apparently produced by the Division of Military and Naval Affairs. Some of the records were apparently filmed as early as 1947.
