Scope and Content Note
This series contains statements of campaign receipts and payments submitted to the secretary of state's office by the treasurers of political committees pursuant to Sections 541 and 546 of the Election Law, which stipulated that the treasurer of any political committee shall file within twenty days after an election statements setting forth all the receipts, expenditures and liabilities of the committee. The statements include the amount received, the name of the person or committee, from whom the amount was received, the date of its receipt, the amount of every expenditure or disbursement, the name of the person or committee to whom it was made, and the date payment was made.
Each statement provides the name of the party; the county, city, assembly, district, town, ward or election district; and the name of the chairman or treasurer of the committee submitting the statement. On the back of each form appears the county and town, city or village in which the committee was located as well as a number, which has been stamped on the form (presumably done by the secretary of state's office). It is difficult to determine if these forms were originally filed by their number or were first arranged by county and then ordered according to the number.
