Scope and Content Note
This series consists of archival copies of the official, publicly accessible main website of New York State as it existed at the end of the administration of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). At the time these copies were produced, this website actually consisted of two seamlessly integrated sites: one contained information created largely by the Office of the Governor, and the other consisted of a New York State Citizen Guide that enabled users to locate state agency websites and contact information, contracting information, lobbying, grant programs, and other topics of broad interest to citizens and businesses. However, the New York State Citizen Guide site was not captured at any point during the Spitzer administration.
The main New York State site was copied on March 10, 2008 and March 17, 2008. Both copies contain press releases; the texts of State of the State Addresses, Budget Messages, and other significant speeches (2007-2008); copies of all executive orders and proclamations that Governor Spitzer issued; photographs of Governor Spitzer, First Lady Silda Wall Spitzer, and Lieutenant Governor David A. Paterson; and information about gubernatorial appointees and screening of judicial candidates. The March 17, 2008 copy also contains Governor Spitzer's March 12, 2008 letter of resignation.
Owing to technical problems, sections of the site concerning the activities of First Lady Silda Wall Spitzer and Lieutenant Governor David L. Paterson (2007-2008) were captured separately on March 17, 2008. They contain press releases, photographs, and information about the interests of and projects led by the First Lady and the Lieutenant Governor.
