Scope and Content Note
This series consists of a card file index to part of Series J0061, Enrolled Decrees, In Re Papers, and Other Case Files. The cards index cases for the 3rd, 4th, and part of the 5th Circuits by defendant last name. There are also a few cards pertaining to divorce cases (male and female surnames the same) that cannot be attributed to any particular circuit. Cards generally list name of defendant and a cross-reference to a file or case number. Some cards list name of plaintiff, as well. A small number list type of action (e.g., bill, order, or subpoena), file date, number of documents attached, and names of solicitor/counselor, but for the most part these elements are blank.
Cards pertaining to divorce cases list an alphanumeric code most likely representing the initial of the parties' last name and case number. Cards indexing 5th Circuit cases are least in number and pertain almost solely to naturalizations. Scattered other references to the 5th Circuit and "Equity Court" are included in the index.
