Scope and Content Note
These three small leather bound books contain field notes and calculations of engineers employed on the canal system.
One book is dated 1847-1849 and was kept by C.E. Gray for work near Canajoharie; another is a level book kept on the middle division of the Oswego Canal in 1851; and a third is a level book kept near Marcellus in 1841. A law of 1851 required engineers to file their field notes with the Comptroller, but it is unknown how these earlier books came into his possession.
