Scope and Content Note
This series consists of application forms and occasional resignation letters for the Office of Notary Public. The application forms vary over years, but generally include: the name of the applicant, occupation, place of residence, birthplace, and citizenship. The appointment of notaries was the responsibility of the governor as outlined in Laws of 1823, Ch. 197. These records may be in the holdings of the Department of Audit and Control because of the fee payments accompanying applications.
