Scope and Content Note
These are annual reports and publications of the Society for the Reformation of Juvenile Delinquents regarding the New York House of Refuge.
1) Annual Reports to the Legislature (as required by laws of 1824 and 1896), 1829, 1831, 1834-1932. 33 vols. Bound among these reports are: Rules and Regulations of the House of Refuge, 1844, 1849; Act of Incorporation and Laws, 1849, 1855; Act of Incorporation, Statutes and Decisions Relative to the House of Refuge, 1862, 1874; Final Report of Building Committee, 1862; Bylaws of Board of Managers, 1854, 1861, 1868, 1874; and proceedings of first and second conventions of Managers of Houses of Refuge and Schools of Reform, 1857, 1860.
2) Miscellaneus Reports: Pamphlets printed by Society for the Reformation of Juvenile Delinquents addressed to the State Legislature and public on such controversies as filling in of Little Hell's Gate and granting access to the reformatory to Catholic clergy, 1878-1882. 2 vols.
Custodial History
The Dept. of Correction placed these records on loan to the Syracuse University Library from 1960-1977.
