Scope and Content Note
The Basic Educational Data System (BEDS) Personnel Master File contains detailed data on the demographic and professional characteristics of public school professional staff and data on their teaching and non-teaching assignments. Each record consists of two sections: 1) a header section identifying the professional's name, sex, marital status, age, educational level, and professional experience; and a main section with assignment data such as the assignment code, assignment name, grade level of students, ability levels of students, and the professional's assignment certification status.
The Archives will also provide copying of the data files on magnetic tape or floppy disk and copying of any support documentation. A user's guide is available from the State Archives.
Tape characteristics: The Personnel Master File contains 14 rectangular flat files stored in Standard label EBCDIC. The files contain numeric and character data. The files are stored on 14 reels of tape at 6250 bpi. The data can be manipulated using a common statistical package. Tape copies are in standard label EBCDIC format. Floppy disk copies are in ASCII format.
