Administrative History
The Tax Commission was created by a joint Senate and Assembly resolution of January 15, 1881 which authorized the Governor to appoint a commission consisting of three to seven private (non-legislative) citizens who would counsel the Joint Legislative Committee on Taxation in advising and amending the laws of assessment and taxation. The results of the Commission were reported to the two houses by the Joint Committee. Members of the Commission were remunerated for their services in the form of twenty dollars per day of service. The members of the Commission were as follows: Andrew N. Green, Joshua M. Van Cobb, Thaddeus Hail, Edward W. Foster, George Geddes, John F. Seymour, and Alonzo Bradner.
