Administrative History
The Bureau of Historic Preservation Field Services reviews any project that may affect structures or sites listed, or eligible to be listed, on the national or state Register of Historic Places. The division reviews state projects pursuant to 9NYCRR 428, and federal projects pursuant to 34 CFR 800, and forwards recommendations to the State Board for Historic Preservation.
Scope and Content Note
The series consists of files created upon review of a state or federal project which may affect so-called "cultural resources" (structures or archaeological sites) that are listed, or are eligible to be listed, on the national or state Register of Historic Places.
Individual "project review files" vary greatly in size and content; there are few standard forms. However, a project review checklist is often included which shows data on the project sponsor and a description of the project. Many small project files, especially those labeled "no effect," contain a few pieces of correspondence. Larger project files almost always contain a copy of a draft of the final environmental impact statement (EIS) or a somewhat less detailed environmental assessment.
Project review files do not contain the results of detailed reviews by the Bureau of Historic Preservation Field Services; the bureau files those reviews in a separate series (entitled "Cultural Resources Survey Reports").
Accretion 19423-07 consists of documentation files for the Ward Bread Building and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Building projects, both located in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. Accretion 19423-08 consists of one case file for NYU's Center for Comparative Genomics at 12 Waverly Place and 14-16 Waverly Place, New York, NY. Accretion 19423-11B consists of a single file for Sugar Hill Project, located on West 155th Street in Manhattan. Accretion 19423-12 consists of documentation for three buildings at St. Teresa's Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn, NY.
