Administrative History
The goal of the Commissioner's Committee on Museum Resources (1961-1962) was to prepare an inventory of museum resources in New York State and study the problems museums face. Committee members included attorneys, architects, museum directors, and other public and private members of the museum community.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of records of the Commissioner's Committee on Museum Resources. These records document planning for a variety of museum activities and functions. Topics include the status of museums as educational institutions; proposed creation of a regional museum system; funding and budgets; loan policies; educational activities; collection policies; tax-exempt status; proposals for state aid; educational function; financial support; standards; legislative support; and public awareness. Record types include minutes, statistical information, and administrative flowcharts. Also included in the series is a copy of the committee's 1962 final report and a very small amount of stray correspondence apparently collected by a former member of the committee.
