Scope and Content Note
This series consists of subject and correspondence files produced by executive staff of the Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR). The series also contains reports (1952-1966) related to housing, primarily in New York City.
The files of Avrum Hyman, Executive Assistant to the Commissioner, include staff assignments; long range planning submissions; material related to President Nixon's Task Force on Housing and Community Renewal; press releases; proposed legislation; correspondence including reference requests forwarded from the executive chamber for reply, correspondence to Commissioner James William Gaynor, and replies drafted by Hyman to many local government and state agency officials; and other administrative material.
Records of Henry Nussbaum, Director of the Finance and Audit Bureau, consist of applications for various proposed housing projects including Parkshore Housing Corporation; Mount Kisco Middle Income Housing Corporation; Hudsonview Plaza, Inc; and the Morris Park Housing Council.
Records from Lee Goodwin, Assistant Commissioner and Commissioner (1971-1973) include material related to the Housing Finance Agency; files concerning legislation sponsored by or affecting DHCR; files on New York City agencies; general correspondence and daily mail records; requests for housing from private citizens; press releases; and files on federal agencies and activities related to housing.
